Spurs and Scotland star John White was one of the best footballers of the 1960s, however, in July 1964, at the age 27 he was struck by lightning and killed. From humble beginnings growing up just outside Edinburgh, through to football fame and his tragic death, the play shares John’s cheeky humour.
It also follows the story of his son Rob White, who was just five months old when his dad died.
Loved by audiences and critics alike, this unique tale of nostalgia shines a fresh and deeply personal perspective on grief, life growing up without a father and male mental health.
Commissioned in 2024 to mark 60 years since John White’s death; The Ghost of White Hart Lane premiered at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in July 2024 (the first live play ever performed at the stadium) and followed with a one-month run with sell-out shows at Underbelly, Edinburgh Fringe (2024) and Jackson’s Lane, Highgate (2025).
The play follows on from the Sunday Times Bestseller The Ghost of White Hart Lane by Rob White and Julie Welch.
