Raimund, Farewell – SPILL Festival of Performance

About the Show

Join us for a joyous collision of encounters, memories, and film excerpts to celebrate the life of revered choreographer Raimund Hoghe.

On 14th May 2021 Raimund Hoghe died in his sleep. We lost an artist of resilient grace, generosity of spirit, and an acute observer of the complexities of the human condition. A German performer, choreographer and writer, he worked as dramaturg for Pina Bausch before going on to create his own performances. Born with severe curvature of the spine, he placed his body onstage as a radical act. Raimund, Farewell is not merely a goodbye. It refuses to be a eulogistic treatise. Using film and recorded spoken word from the artist himself, Mary Kate Connolly – editor of his biography – brings us together to experience traces of a life lived with beauty, with steel, with vibrance. As a long-term collaborator with the SPILL Festival, Raimund performed at the inaugural SPILL Festival at the Barbican in 2007 in Sacre – The Rite of Spring.
