Conversations with Paul Robeson

About the Show

George explores the life of this remarkable man through narrative, monologue and song and brings to life the depth of Paul Robeson, the performer, actor, singer and human rights activist. Remarkably Paul Robeson is little known these days by many and has gone down in folklore as one of the most prominent men in many ways in his day. His quest for freedom the world over defined him through his long career as well as the joy he brought to stage, screen and theatre. George traverses through aspects of his life and reminds us that in the 1930s Paul Robeson spent 12 years in the UK and lived just a few miles away in Hampstead. Who was he? How did an African American come to play Othello for the RSC? Why was he considered so highly by his peers and the public the world over? What was his remarkable relationship with the Welsh and Scottish miners? Come and enjoy a performance that highlights the man who is Paul Robeson.
