‘He keeps me sane, don’t you Clive?
Well maybe not, as I’m talking to a giant cactus.’
The Arcola presents the world premiere of Olivier and BAFTA Award winning writer Michael Wynne’s new play Clive.
Thomas loves working from home – he can create the whole day the way he wants it, all the while talking to his friend, a very large cactus called Clive.
However when things go wrong with his job, his life begins to unravel and he becomes obsessed with the neighbours outside his window and more and more reliant on his spiky friend.
At once funny and moving, Clive explores the double edged nature of technology and the dangers of isolation in modern life.
Michael Wynne has written 5 plays for the Royal Court Theatre including The Knocky, Cuckoo and The Priory – Best Comedy Olivier Award. TV and film including Lapland, Being Eileen, Sugar Rush, As If and My Summer Of Love – BAFTA Best British Film.
Clive reunites two time Olivier nominee Paul Keating (Murder on the Orient Express, My Night with Reg, Animal Kingdom) with Lucy Bailey (Witness for the Prosecution, Oleanna, Switzerland) – back at the Arcola after their smash hit Kenny Morgan.
