About the Show

Part of the BBC Proms.

A lone bird soars and dives in Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending; a whole chorus of skylarks come together in joyful clamour in Thomas Ades’ Marchentanze (‘Fairy-Tale Dances’); and swans fly, majestic in Sibelius’s Symphony No. 5. Nature – beautiful, powerful, elemental – is the guiding thread through this concert from the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Nicholas Collon, taking us from the English countryside to the glitter and churn of waves in Debussy’s La mer and finally to Finland’s forests and lakes. Finnish violin maverick Pekka Kuusisto is the soloist.
