About the Show

Part of the BBC Proms.-

The Philharmonia Orchestra makes its first Proms appearance under Principal Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali with highlights from two classic Russian ballets that combine star-crossed lovers and intervening forces in their different ways. Death – tragic, macabre, but also blackly comic – hangs over Missy Mazzoli’s Violin Concerto, ‘Procession’: Jennifer Koh is the soloist in the European premiere of a piece that looks back to the funeral rituals of medieval Europe during the Black Death.
