About This Show

Something Wicked are delighted to announce a week of rehearsed readings of a new film script, authored by a widely acknowledged expert on the Marquis de Sade. Unlike all other films made about Sade, this script focusses on the two love affairs that dominated his life. The young Marquis was obliged to enter into an arranged marriage with the daughter of a rich bourgeois family, but it was this lady’s sister that he fell in love with, a relationship that was doomed from the start, partly because the fervently religious Anne was destined to become a novice Carmelite nun! Sade never recovered from Annie’s loss. He even attempted suicide when she abandoned him. Years later, during the Revolution, he met Constance, a beautiful and intelligent actress who, while she could not replace Anne, would remain his friend and partner for the remainder of his life. This, then, will be the first telling on screen of the Divine Marquis’s love life.

Rehearsed reading.
