The Sleep Cycle Performances, developed by Columbina Theatre Company and Alice Oswald, invite the audience to bring comfortable cushions to lie on. At the Bike Shed, the stage area will act as the auditorium, where the audience will be able to stretch out and drift in and out of sleep. The performer will perform from the raked seating area. Those parts of the poem that you miss, you can fill in with your dreams. Pass in and out of different states of consciousness, just like being told a bed-time story. Even if it’s Four O’clock in the afternoon… WEYLAND lasts 100 minutes and tells the story of Weyland, a brilliant smith, crippled and imprisoned by the insane King Nud. This is a story of escape from impossibility by means of genius. And it’s a love story. Part of the performance takes place in complete darkness. Peter Oswald is a performer and playwright who was Writer in Residence at Shakespeare’s Globe. His plays have been performed at The Globe, the National Theatre, in the West End, on Broadway and around the world.
