About the Show

‘It’s hard to know things, isn’t it? Have you ever found that, it’s really hard to know. Never Vera Blue tells the story of one woman who, through the course of her marriage, has been made to doubt herself so much, she cannot even say, with certainty, how tall she is. Trapped, like Little Red Riding Hood in the belly of a wolf, she asks the vital question – how do I get out? Written in response to conversations with survivors of domestic abuse, Never Vera Blue is a disorientating story of one woman’s journey to recover who she is. From the city to the Kent coast, from a war-torn land to the pit of the stomach, Alexandra Wood’s play explores just what it means to be made to doubt yourself and how to regain a sense of identity.
