About This Show

Five of the most talented young professional musicians in the UK will be directed from the cello by David Waterman, cellist of the world famous Endellion String Quartet which this year is celebrating its fortieth anniversary. Brahms’s second Sextet, written when the composer was in his early thirties, is one of his most approachable chamber works. Like the enormously successful ‘Slavonic Dances’ which preceded it, Dvorák’s sextet is full of Czech folk melodies, both wistful and energetic. The Maiastra concerts, which are organised by the Aidan Woodcock Charitable Trust, are the culmination of courses designed to provide opportunities for advanced students in the performance of chamber music. The musicians are normally at postgraduate level and are planning to make chamber music their career or a part of their career.
