Thomas has spent the day holding auditions for the female lead in his theatrical re-working of Sacher-Masoch’s novella of 1870, Venus in Fur. None of them is right for the part… but then enters Vanda, a late-comer to the auditions. When they enact some scenes, it emerges that she may be unnervingly suited to the role. Then, as they delve deeper into their ?play-within-a-play’, the line dividing reality from its mimetic representation becomes dangerously blurred. Themes of submission and control – and their powerful influence on human sexuality – are explored in this daring (and often very funny) contemporary take on an enduring fantasy.
