Producer David Ian has revealed his plans to bring Broadway hit musical Xanadu to the UK.
Speaking on Radio Five Live, Ian hinted that a UK transfer will be “coming to a stage near you in August” – by which we assume he means the West End.
Xanadu is based on the 1980 cult film of the same name, about a Greek muse who descends from Mount Olympus to 1980s California to help struggling artist Sonny build a roller disco. The musical, which has music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar and a book by Douglas Carter Beane, opened on Broadway in 2007 and ran for over 500 performances.
During his chat with Simon Mayo, Ian also spoke of a forthcoming West End transfer of his touring production of Flashdance (See News, 8 Feb 2008), and said he thought a reality casting show based on Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s Jesus Christ Superstar “could work”, suggesting a slogan of “the Lord is looking for a Lord”!
