To Sir, With Love musical announces full cast to join Lulu and Wayne Brady

The show, based on the 1967 film, will be staged in the West End next month

Complete casting has now been revealed for To Sir, With Love – A New Musical in the West End.

The piece follows a teacher named Rick Braithwaite (first portrayed on screen by Sidney Poitier in the 1967 film), a Cambridge-educated engineer and a former RAF fighter pilot, and the relationship with his students. It explores themes of race, class, respect and resilience.

The musical adaptation of E R Braithwaite’s memoir features a score by John Farrar and Kara DioGuardi, with direction by Sheldon Epps, arrangements by Eve Nelson, musical supervision and orchestrations by Joseph Joubert, dramaturgy by Shereen Jasmin Phillips and choreography by Edgar Godineaux. Sound design is by Paul Smith, with lighting design by Jack Weir, production management by Phil McCandlish and casting by Debbie O’Brien.

Joining previously announced cast members Lulu, who made the title song “To Sir, with Love” an international hit, as Dale Evans and five-time Emmy Award winner and Grammy nominee Wayne Brady, making his West End musical debut as Rick Braithwaite, will be Jess Folley as Pamela Dare, George Maguire as Mr Weston, Chelsea Halfpenny as Gillian Blanchard, Kara Lane as Mrs Dare, Michael Vinsen (Hairspray) as Mr Bell, and Elijah Millar, making his professional debut as Sears.

The young adult company, all provided by Italia Conti, includes Jamie Molloy as Denham, Ben Salter as Buckley, Vivien Farkas-Haholt as Barbara Pegg, Sophia Oram as Tara Joseph, Thomas Stocks as Graham Potter, Toby Foetu-Foster as Titch Jackson, Matthew Navas as Sapiano, Isobelle Tolson as Pupil 1, Katie Mitton as Pupil 2, and Rosie Hernandez-Lawrence as Reserve Pupil).

To Sir, With Love is produced by Lythgoe Productions and Darren Bell, with Alex Day, Willette and Manny Klausner, Jonathan and Jennifer Yaek, Charles Duggan, Tracey Besant, Chris and Vivienne Day and Rebecca Bahling-Lythgoe. The show has been developed through the Ogunquit Playhouse New Works Program.

To Sir, With Love – A New Musical is scheduled to run for two concert performances at the Gillian Lynne Theatre on 24 November 2025.
