Lockdown Tina meets West End Tina
During the pandemic, online personality Austyn Farrell famously ran down his street as Tina Turner, lip-syncing “Proud Mary” for neighbours. Ahead of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical closing earlier this month, he appeared with Karis Anderson, who played Tina at the Aldwych Theatre, bringing that full-circle magic to the stage.

If you’re an OG you will remember this was my first lip-sync on my street back in 2020 that went viral! The Obamas shared it, Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey, Dolly Parton alongside so many others shared this video. At this point in my life I had never worn heels, wigs, dresses, anything that would make me look feminine on social media, I wanted to come across as a lad as in my profession of dancing we had to look certain ways on our profiles, so for me this felt like I was coming out…again lol. The love and energy I received from doing it made me feel comfortable in my skin, it didn’t make me feel embarrassed or ashamed of having fun. If I had not done that video I truly don’t know if I would have changed careers into being a content creator. This video alone got me 250,000 followers in the space of a week, it was mental! So….being a huge fan of Tina’s music and falling in love with watching @tinathemusical on the West End (4 times ha) words can not describe how it felt to do this next to the one and only @Karis Anderson on the Aldwych Theatre stage with 2 fantastic dancers in the show Annell Odartey and Clio Tamai. I first saw Karis perform as Tina with my mum around a year ago and words do not comprehend how talented this woman is, I never got to see Tina live but I truly felt like I was watching her live on stage! Karis as herself is such a beautiful human, with the warmest heart. You know when you just click and feel safe! She made me feel so welcome and ready for the day so thank you and also thank you to the lights, costume, screens, the full production while getting to dance my heart off doing the amazing choreography, guided by the show’s Resident Choreographer Renée Ocran. Hand on heart, one of the best things I’ve ever done so thank you @The Tina Turner Musical for having me and thank you for bringing me so much joy….
