Bristol Old Vic has announced the cast for its new revival of Arthur Miller's The Crucible, which launches its autumn season in October.

The play received its UK premiere at Bristol Old Vic in 1954, and is being revived by current artistic director Tom Morris to mark Miller's centenary.

The cast will be led by Dean Lennox Kelly, whose credits include Shameless and Cranford on TV and A Taste of Honey (National Theatre) on stage, as John Proctor.

He'll be joined by Neve McIntosh (Doctor Who, RSC's Great Expectations) as Elizabeth Proctor and Rona Morison (Scuttlers, The James Plays) as Abigail Williams.

Jeffery Kissoon, whose recent credits include Antony and Cleopatra opposite Kim Cattrall, plays Deputy-Governor Danforth, with fellow RSC veteran David Hargreaves as Giles Corey.

The cast also features: Daniel Weyman (Rev. Hale), Jude Akuwudike (Rev. Parris), Kika Markham (Rebecca Nurse), Dominic Allen (Ezekiel Cheever), Peter Edwards (Herrick), Ewart James Walters (Francis Nurse), Sara Powell (Tituba), Saskia Portway (Ann Putnam/Sarah Good) and Annes Elwy as (Mary Warren).

Emma Naomi plays Mercy Lewis, Olivia Edwards plays Susanna Walcott and Grace Reynolds Buckton and Zoe Castle will share the role of Betty Parris.

Tom Morris said: "I am thrilled to welcome a cast of this quality and range to the theatre where this great play had its European premiere in 1954. It is a story of the founding of America, of course, and a story of the fears and hypocrisies of the 1950s, but the more I read it the more it feels to be a play about now. I can't imagine a better team to bring it to life for an audience in 2015."

The Crucible runs at Bristol Old Vic from 8 October to 7 November 2015.
