Royal Exchange actor, Andrew Garfield star of Romeo and Juliet and Kes has been named as the new Spiderman in the fourth film, replacing Tobey Maguire. The 26-year-old, raised in the UK but born in California, will begin work on the new movie in December.
His previous film credits include last year’s The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus alongside the late Heath Ledger. He also starred in Robert Redford’s Lions For Lambs.
But, he is perhaps best known for his stage work which includes Beautiful Thing at the Sound Theatre in London, Out Of Joint’s The Overwhelming which played in London and on tour, including Manchester and the aforementioned productions at the RET, whereby he won an MEN award for playing Billy Casper in Barry Hines’ Kes.
The fourth Spiderman film is directed by Marc Webb who had previous success with the Indie hit 500 Days Of Summer.
