Fans of The Little Mermaid and Wicked – unite!
Exclusive: Sea Witch, a new musical telling the origin story of the villain from The Little Mermaid, will have its world premiere in the UK.
The production is created and conceived by Kristopher Russell and Michael David Glover with Dean Lee, choreographer for Janet Jackson. Music and lyrics are composed by Segun Fawole.
The musical is based on Sarah Henning’s young adult novel Sea Witch, first published by HarperCollins in 2018. The story follows Evie, a young witch cast out in a kingdom where magic is forbidden. Haunted by the loss of her best friend Anna and cut off from Prince Nik, Evie hides away until she meets Annemette, a mermaid who looks just like Anna. With three days to win a human’s love or disappear, Annemette draws Evie back into a dangerous world of magic, love and betrayal.
Three tracks from the show have been released: “My World” performed by Natalie Kassanga, “Homeland” performed by Russell, and “There’s a Light” performed by Jodie Steele. You can listen to Kassanga’s track below, while the others are available to stream across multiple platforms.
Venue, dates and casting for Sea Witch are yet to be announced.
