The National Theatre has confirmed full casting for Man and Boy, Terence Rattigan’s play about a financier whose fortunes collapse, directed by Anthony Lau in his first production for the venue.

Ben Daniels and Laurie Kynaston play Gregor Antonescu and his son Basil in a contemporary adaptation that runs in the Dorfman from 30 January to 14 March 2026, with a press performance on 10 February.

They are joined by Phoebe Campbell as Carol Penn, Nick Fletcher as Sven Johnson, Isabella Laughland as Countess Antonescu, Malcolm Sinclair as Mark Herries and Leo Wan as David Beeston.

Set in 1930s New York, the story follows Antonescu after a failed business deal sends shockwaves through the financial world. He seeks refuge in the apartment of his estranged son, forcing both men to confront their fractured relationship as he attempts to salvage his position.

Lau’s creative team includes Georgia Lowe on set and costumes, Elliot Griggs on lighting, Haruka Kuroda as intimacy director, Aline David on choreography and movement, Angus MacRae as composer, Giles Thomas on sound, Martin Poile as casting director, Aundrea Fudge as dialect coach and Rachel Lemon as staff director.
