Sky Arts has unveiled a raft of stage-orientated programming across the Bank Holiday weekend.
Given it’s a coronation special, the channel has decided that what better way to celebrate than with a special screening of the 25th anniversary O2 capture of Les Misérables – first being shown on Friday 5 May at 6.15am on the Freeview Channel, before a second (more reasonably timed) event on Monday 8 May at 9.00pm.
The show stars Alfie Boe, Samantha Barks, Matt Lucas and more, and ended up being the template for the various concert productions of the piece that have followed in subsequent years.
Also being shown on the 8 May is Peter Pan Live, which stars Christopher Walken as Captain Hook, while the night before (7 May) at 8pm will be a showing of Jeff Wayne’s musical version of The War of the Worlds – undoubtedly a patriotic way to wrap up a day of celebration.
Les Misérables also continues in the West End, playing at the Sondheim Theatre with a cast including Josh Piterman and Lucie Jones.
