Les Misérables extends West End run as it continues 40th anniversary year

The show will celebrate the milestone next month

Cameron Mackintosh has confirmed Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre will extend its run.

A “birthday cast” has started performing during the show’s 40th anniversary celebrations – featuring Killian Donnelly as Jean Valjean, with Bradley Jaden as Javert, Katie Hall as Fantine, Jac Yarrow as Marius, Shan Ako as Éponine, Jordan Shaw as Enjolras and Beatrice Penny-Touré as Cosette. Adam Gillen appears as Thénardier and Marina Prior as Madame Thénardier.

Ian McIntosh will perform the role of Jean Valjean at certain performances, Sam Oladeinde plays Javert at certain performances, Rachelle Ann Go plays Fantine at certain performances, Luke Kempner plays Thénardier at certain performances, Thiago Phillip Felizardo plays Marius at certain performances, Robson Broad and Joe Griffiths-Brown play Enjolras at certain performances and Izzi Levine plays Cosette at certain performances, Many familiar faces will then return to the show in November (with casting from 3 November to be confirmed).

Written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, the show is based on the novel by Victor Hugo. Mackintosh’s production has orchestrations by Stephen Metcalfe, Christopher Jahnke and Stephen Brooker with original orchestrations by John Cameron. The production is directed by James Powell and Laurence Connor, designed by Matt Kinley inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo with costumes by Andreane Neofitou, Christine Rowland and Paul Wills, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Mick Potter, projections realised by Finn Ross and Fifty Nine Productions, musical staging by Geoffrey Garratt, and music supervision by Stephen Brooker and Alfonso Casado Trigo.

It has music by Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and original French text by Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, additional material by James Fenton and adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird.

The production has now extended its run by a further seven months to Saturday 3 October, with tickets for the new period on sale now. The show will celebrate its 40th anniversary in London on Wednesday 8 October 2025.
