Edward Hall directs this revival of Simon Gray’s 1995 play
Simon Gray's Cell Mates opened at Hampstead Theatre last week and guests including Jonathan Bailey, Olivia Vinall, Anna Madeley and Julian Ovenden were in attendance on press night.
Set in Wormwood Scrubs Prison in 1961, Geoffrey Streatfeild plays George Blake, one of Britain's most notorious double agents, who is serving a 42-year sentence. Streatfeild returns to the theatre after starring in Michael Frayn's Wild Honey last year.
He stars alongside Emmet Byrne, who makes his London stage debut as Sean Bourke, an Irish petty criminal who strikes up an unlikely friendship with Blake.
Directed by Hampstead Theatre's Edward Hall the cast is completed by Philip Bird, Cara Horgan and Danny Lee Wynter.
In her review for WhatsOnStage, Sarah Crompton called Cell Mates a 'wonderful reminder of just how good a writer Gray could be'.
Cell Mates runs at Hampstead Theatre until 20 January.
