Hugh Jackman will star in Jez Butterworth's 2012 play The River when it transfers to Broadway later this year.

Jackman, who will play the role of a fisherman created at the Royal Court by Dominic West, will be joined in the cast by original cast member Laura Donnelly and Cush Jumbo, both of whom mark their Broadway debuts.

They'll be directed by Ian Rickson, who directed the original production and also helmed Butterworth's award-winning Jerusalem.

Jackman was most recently on Broadway in his one-man show Hugh Jackman – Back on Broadway in 2011. He received a special Tony Award last year and will host this year's ceremony 8 June.

The River will open on 16 November 2014 (previews from 31 October) at the Circle in the Square Theatre (West 50th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue).
