Hadestown has unveiled new leads at the Lyric Theatre, as the show celebrates its 1000th performance this week.

The award-winning musical retells the myths of Orpheus and Eurydice and of Hades and Persephone. It features music, lyrics and book by Anaïs Mitchell, with direction by Rachel Chavkin.

Set to take over the role of Persephone is Olivier Award winner Danielle de Niese, alongside Shaun Dooley as Hades.

Fayth Ifil will play Eurydice, with Malinda Parris as Hermes and The Wanted member Nathan Sykes as Orpheus. The newcomers join the current cast from 15 September.

Melanie Bright, Spike Maxwell, and Lauran Rae are the Fates, alongside Femi Akinfolarin, Michelle Andrews, Gabriela Benedetti, Ollie Bingham and Sebastian Lim-Seet as the Workers, with Juan Jackson, Oisín Nolan-Power, Lindo Shinda, Jasmine Triadi and Milly Willows as swings.

In 2025, original Broadway cast members reunited in London for a limited season where a live recording took place across three performances. Featuring in the film, titled Hadestown: The Musical, are André de Shields as Hermes, WhatsOnStage Award nominee Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, Reeve Carney as Orpheus, Amber Gray as Persephone and Patrick Page as Hades. UK release plans have been revealed.

The creative team includes choreographer David Neumann, scenic designer Rachel Hauck, costume designer Michael Krass, lighting designer Bradley King, sound designers Nevin Steinberg and Jessica Paz, music supervisor and vocal arranger Liam Robinson, arrangers and orchestrators Michael Chorney and Todd Sickafoose, dramaturg Ken Cerniglia, UK associate director Maria Crocker, co-musical directors and associate music supervisors Tarek Merchant and George Francis, with casting by Jacob Sparrow and principal casting by Rob Kelly.

The London production is produced by Mara Isaacs, Dale Franzen, Hunter Arnold, Tom Kirdahy and the National Theatre in association with JAS Theatricals.

Hadestown will also embark on its first-ever UK and Ireland tour next year, with details to be found here.
