Hot on the heels of concert events in four American cities earlier this year, Fox TV and Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy have today (19 November 2010) announced the television cast will play arena concerts in London, Manchester and Dublin in June 2011.
Glee Live! In Concert! brings stars the stars of the Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning TV show including Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), Amber Riley (Mercedes), Chris Colfer (Kurt), Kevin McHale (Artie), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Mark Salling (Puck), Dianna Agron (Quinn), Naya Rivera (Santana), Heather Morris (Brittany), Harry Shum, Jr. (Mike), Chord Overstreet (Sam) and Darren Criss (Blaine) across the Atlantic to perform newly created and well-known numbers from the show.
A string of Glee-based tribute shows have recently filled British theatres and arenas building on the popularity of the show, which is broadcast in the UK on E4. Glee features a cast of broadway musical theatre stars including Lea Michele (Spring Awakening), Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked) and Matthew Morrison (Hairspray) singing popular rock and pop songs including the trademark “Don’t Stop Believin'”. Recent episodes have been dedicated to the music of Britney Spears, Madonna and – for Halloween – The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Glee Live! In Concert! will only play two British cities during its European tour, calling at Manchester’s MEN Arena on 22 June for one night only, followed by two dates at London’s O2 Arena on 25 and 26 June 2011. The tour then continues to Ireland, playing Dublin’s O2 Arena on 2 and 3 July.
Speaking about bringing the concert show to Europe Glee‘s creator Ryan Murphy said: “We had such a great time putting together last year’s shows and the response from the fans was incredible. People around the world want to see our cast live and in person, so this European tour is our way of thanking them for the unbelievable way they’ve embraced our little show.”
Murphy went on to hint that the tour might make its way back across the Atlantic, continuing the success of its American tour, which played Phoenix, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York in May of this year.
Tickets go on general sale at for the British tour dates on 26 November 2010 and are available from Live Nation. Glee is the global music phenomenon of the year.
To date over 16 million Glee tracks have been digitally downloaded with over 5.5 million albums sold worldwide gaining the show one platinum and two gold disks.
