The 1575-seat venue is built for musicals
In a bonus midweek episode of the WhatsOnStage Podcast, editor-in-chief Alex Wood made the trip to the gigantic Olympia event space in Kensington, soon to be home to the new Olympia Theatre.
Currently in construction, the Olympia Theatre is due to open to the public in 2027 and is located next to the existing exhibition centre, event space and conference centre in West Kensington.
Rosemary Squire, the co-founder of operator Trafalgar Entertainment, has elaborated what theatregoers can expect from the 1575-seat venue: including 100 toilets, a huge playing space and top class amenities.
We’ve done a full interview with Squire, as well as provided highlights from yesterday’s talk about the future of the Olympia, in our completely free WhatsOnStage Podcast:
The Olympia Theatre is part of the major £1.3bn redevelopment of the Olympia events space in west London, located next to Kensington station.
While the new Olympia development will open to the public later this year, the theatre itself will be the last element to be completed. Squire said that the programming model will be a “mix and match” approach, with varying run lengths of musicals that suit the larger space. Programming information may come next year.
