CEO Bob Iger hints at possible stage adaptation of recent smash hit
This winter's red hot blockbuster, Disney's Frozen, has been warming the hearts of moviegoers around the world since its premiere in November last year and, if recent comments made by CEO Bob Iger are anything to go by, it could well be following The Lion King, Little Mermaid and Tarzan into a theatre near you.
In a gushing interview with Fortune magazine, Iger discussed the film's success – it has already grossed $669million, is Disney's all time best animation debut and will soon pass The Lion King in overall box office sales, all before opening in China or Japan.
Perhaps most exciting for us though was Iger's confirmation that Disney is in discussions to develop a stage adaptation of the film, although there is no set time frame. "We're not demanding speed," he says. "We're demanding excellence."
We'd like to think that having a film cast that already includes legends of Broadway (and WhatsOnStage Award winners) Idina Menzel and Jonathan Groff will help get things off the ground quicker, but we shall have to wait and see!
