Theatre company Defibrillator have announced they will revive Sam Shepard's A Lie of the Mind.

The company, who are set to open Speech and Debate at Trafalgar Studios in February, will open Shepard's 1985 play at Southwark Playhouse on 8 May.

A Lie of the Mind is set in Montana, and follows Beth and her abusive husband Jake. It first opened off-Broadway at the Promenade Theater in December 1985. In the following year it won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play.

It will be directed by Defibrillator's artistic director James Hillier, who has most recently directed Terry Johnson’s Insignificance and the world premiere of Tennessee Williams’ The Hotel Plays.

Casting is to be announced.

A Lie of the Mind will run at Southwark Playhouse from 8 to 28 May, with previews from 4 May.
