The new production will tour the UK from February 2017
Coronation Street and Dinner Ladies star Shobna Gulati will play the role of Daljit in Birmingham Rep's production of Anita And Me.
Tanika Gupta's play is based on Meera Syal's comic coming-of-age novel about a young Punjabi girl caught between two cultures in 1970s West Midlands. Roxana Silbert's staging opened to critical acclaim in 2015.
The production opens at the Wolverhampton Grand on 14 February 2017 before touring to Cheltenham, Blackpool, Nottingham, Bradford and Edinburgh, with eight actors drawn from each local community performing alongside the professional cast.
Anita And Me is designed by Liz Ashcroft, with sound design by Ben and Max Ringham, and is presented by Touring Consortium Theatre Company and Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Further casting to be announced.
