Cast for Shakespeare double-bill at Sheffield Crucible revealed

Sheffield Theatres has announced the full company for its autumn Shakespeare season at the Crucible Theatre, with a single ensemble performing across new productions of King Lear and Twelfth Night.

In a rare repertory approach, the company will take on multiple roles across both productions. They join the previously announced Ian McDiarmid, who will play Lear in King Lear, and Mathew Horne, who will play Malvolio in Twelfth Night.

The company comprises David Birrell as Gloucester and Feste, James Chetwood as Oswald and Sir Andrew Aguecheek, Mark Holgate as Kent and Antonio, Christopher Jordan as Curan, Priest, Valentine and Second Officer, Justina Kehinde as Regan and Olivia, Hazel Monaghan as swing and actor musician, Harry Redding as Edgar and Sebastian, Max Revell as Fool and Curio, Jay Saighal as Cornwall and Fabian, Bebe Sanders as Cordelia and Viola, Sachin K Sharma as France, Captain, Sea Captain and First Officer, Fode Simbo as Edmund and Orsino, Milo Twomey as Albany and Sir Toby Belch, and Katie Wimpenny as Goneril and Maria.

Directed by Titas Halder, King Lear runs from 29 August to 19 September 2026. The creative team includes set and costume designer Richard Kent, lighting designer Ryan Day, composer Sarah Angliss, sound designer Emma Laxton, fight, movement and intimacy director Yarit Dor, associate fight director Enric Ortuño, casting director Matilda James, dramaturg Sophie Duncan, associate director Vicky Moran, voice and text coach Barbara Houseman and assistant director Marc Small.

Directed by Jamie Glover, Twelfth Night runs from 10 to 31 October 2026. Its creative team includes set and costume designer Amanda Stoodley, lighting designer Richard Howell, composer and musical director Genevieve Dawson, sound designer Raffaela Pancucci, movement director Charlotte Broom, casting director Matilda James, associate director Vicky Moran, voice and text coach Barbara Houseman and assistant director Marc Small.

King Lear is presented in association with Michael Grandage Company, marking a reunion between Sheffield Theatres and its former artistic director Michael Grandage.
