Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann is in talks to bring Strictly Ballroom to the West End.

Based on the 1992 movie of the same name, which in turn was based on Luhrmann's critically acclaimed 1984 stage play, Strictly Ballroom tells the story of an Australian ballroom dancer, Scott Hastings (played in the film by Paul Mercurio), and his struggle to establish his personal style of dance in his way to win the Pan-Pacific Grand Prix Dancing Championship.

The show is due to open in Melbourne after a run in Sydney earlier this year and, according to Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail, "Luhrmann’s producers will open Strictly in the West End late in 2015 or early 2016 — if a theatre can be found."

Bamigboye reports that Luhrmann's team viewed three West End theatres recently and are due back later next month.
