Who will play “Doctor Jones”?

Aqua’s back catalogue and story are to be adapted into a new musical, Aqua The Musical, which will premiere in Copenhagen in 2028.
Danish production company AHA Creations has received approval from the group Aqua to transform their music and history into the show.
The production will have its world premiere at the Royal Opera House in Copenhagen. AHA Creations owns the global rights to the musical’s title for a minimum of 25 years. The company is developing the show with the aim of creating a musical with international appeal, with plans to transfer the production to theatres including those on the West End and Broadway, as well as in cities such as Hamburg and Toronto. International stakeholders have, according to AHA, already shown interest in the project.
Martin Palme Skriver, executive director of AHA Creations, says today: “Aqua is one of the few Danish groups to have truly secured a place in world music history. With millions of albums sold, top rankings on international charts, and a legacy that still resonates today, they created a playful universe, tailor-made for musical theatre. That is why Aqua provides the perfect foundation for a new and international musical. With Aqua the Musical, we hold a unique opportunity to launch a Danish-produced musical onto the global stage.”
The group Aqua is involved in the creative process to help ensure their story is portrayed accurately. Aqua, whose hits include “Barbie Girl” and “Doctor Jones”, commented: “We’ve had a wild ride, full of experiences that have never really been told before. Now, we’re incredibly excited to relive them as a musical, together with the rest of the world. We’re certain it will be both fun and moving, and at the same time a reminder of everything we’ve been through and how privileged we’ve been.”
Aqua The Musical is developed in cooperation with Fredericia Musicalteater. The show’s director is Thomas Agerholm, with playwrights Claus Reenberg, Mads Æbeløe, and Nikolaj Tarp. Benjamin La Cour will provide the scenography.
