A Little Night Music will be revived at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre.

The much-loved musical by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler is inspired by a film by Ingmar Bergman and originally produced and directed on Broadway by Harold Prince.

Selina Cartmell will direct the production over the 2026 festive period. Set in turn-of-the-century Sweden, the Tony Award-winning musical comedy follows mismatched couples who waltz through a series of self-delusions in search of a happy ending. The piece features key numbers, including “Send in the Clowns” and “Night Waltz” and is suitable for families.

A Little Night Music plays from 5 December 2026 to 30 January 2027. It was revealed as part of the Royal Exchange Theatre’s bumper new season for the new year.

This new revival is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International.
