Miranda – who recently paid a visit to the London production of his musical, In the Heights – has confirmed that Hamilton will cross the pond and will open at the Victoria Palace Theatre in October 2017.

The musical, which tells the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and blends hip-hop, jazz blues and rap music, opened on Broadway in 2015. It has since gone on to win 11 Tony Awards – including Best Musical – a Pulitzer Prize and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.

Khan also took time out of his US tour to meet with Tooting Arts Club, whose acclaimed production of Sweeney Todd will transfer to New York next year. In a tweet he said: "They've come a long way from Harrington's Pie & Mash in Tooting."
