Bush Theatre announce This Place We Know programme
Bush Theatre have announced the full programme for This Place We Know, which will feature six newly commissioned plays about the theatre's local community.
The productions play at a number of borrowed spaces along Uxbridge Road, where the theatre is based, while improvements to the theatre are made.
Artistic director Madani Younis will direct Zaida and Aadam by Gbolahan Obisesan at the Nubian Life Resource Centre – a centre for African and Caribbean elderly people – from 26 September.
Nancy Harris’ One Cold Dark Night, directed by Omar Elerian, will be performed at the Defector's Weld pub between.
The following week will see Barney Norris' The Rest of Your Life play at karaoke joint Bar FM, and Terrorism by Kenny Emson will be performed at former cinema Room 56, Dorsett – the old Shepherd’s Bush Palladium and a former cinema.
During the final week, Battleface by Sabrina Mahfouz will play at St Stephen’s CE Primary School, whilst St Stephen’s Church will host April De Angelis’s Nobody’s Listening.
The renovations will see the theatre become more accessible with a new street level entrance, and the capacity of the theatre increase by up to 20%.
Younis said: "It has never seemed more important or fitting to present a season that mirrors the diversity and cultural heritage of our immediate community… This year sees the Bush Theatre step outside of our building and conventional theatre setting and into the heart of Shepherd’s Bush, continuing our commitment to speaking up for, and with, our neighbours."
