Theatre Royal’s 2011/12 Panto on Sale Now

You might not have seen this year’s pantomime yet, but tickets for Theatre Royal Newcastle’s 2011/12 pantomime, Sleeping Beauty, are released for sale today, a week before the curtain lifts for its lavish 2010/11 panto, Robin Hood – The Pantomime Adventure.

Sleeping Beauty – The Pantomime of Your Dreams! must go on sale more than a year before it opens to meet the high demand for tickets, and as Theatre Royal pantomimes sell faster than any other pantomime in the UK, customers are eager to book before the best seats sell out.

The Theatre Royal’s favourite double act, multi-award-winning pantomime legends Danny Adams and Clive Webb will be back again by overwhelming popular demand playing Muddles and The King respectively. Plus no panto would be complete without the best-dressed dame in the country, the North East’s own Chris Hayward, in his 27th panto appearance, this time as The Queen.

Sleeping Beauty is one of the most traditional and popular pantomimes of all time. It tells the story of the ill-fated princess who falls foul of the curse of a bad fairy, pricks her finger on a spinning wheel and falls asleep for a hundred years, only to be woken by the kiss of a handsome prince. Muddles is the Palace’s comic Kitchen Hand who is inexorably entwined in the action and romance of the story.

Produced by Qdos Entertainment, the world’s largest pantomime producer, Sleeping Beauty – the Pantomime of your Dreams! will be staged by the same team that has presented the last seven record-breaking pantomimes at Theatre Royal Newcastle.

This will be the seventh Theatre Royal pantomime written and produced by Wallsend-born West End producer Michael Harrison, following hot on the heels of last year’s pantomime Cinderella, and this year’s record-breaking show Robin Hood, which has already become the fastest selling pantomime in Theatre Royal history.

Sleeping Beauty is set to raise the bar once again with spectacular sets, breathtaking special affects, incredible magic tricks and stunning costumes. As always, Clive and Danny will supply an abundance of world-class comedy for all the family.

Philip Bernays, Chief Executive of Theatre Royal Newcastle, said: “We are proud to say that people simply cannot wait to book for the panto, last year audiences came out of Cinderella, went straight to the box office and booked immediately for Robin Hood, and we anticipate the same will happen again his year. It’s important that we are prepared for the rush. “We are very excited to have one of the most popular pantos ever – Sleeping Beauty at the Theatre Royal next year, and early indications suggest that it will be more spectacular then ever.”

Sleeping Beauty – the Pantomime of your Dreams! will appear at the Theatre Royal from Tuesday 29 November 2011 to Saturday 14 January 2012. Public booking opens on Tuesday 30 November 2010, Friends of the Theatre Royal can book from today, Tuesday 23 November 2010.
