Sad to see a report in The Stage that English Shakespeare Company has gone into liquidation. Founded in 1986 by Michael Bogdanov and Michael Pennington the company set out a prolific touring schedule through the UK, Europe and North America. The company s role in establishing Education first as a practical priority and secondly as a specific company set standards that others have never been able to match. Bogdanov has attributed some of the blame to his own punishing work schedule taking him regularly to Europe and recently to Australia. A period in charge of the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg also ended when the venue was in considerable financial difficulty.
