We’re glad to see that Jerry Springer composer and co-writer Richard Thomas has managed to retain his sense of humour. When he learned that the controversial musical’s on-again, off-again tour was back on again, despite heavy protest pressure from religious groups who have deemed it blasphemous, Thomas said he was “overjoyed” (See News, 20 Sep 2005). He added: “I am also buying a flak jacket. And sticking close to the shadows.” Several BBC executives reportedly received death threats when BBC2 aired the stage musical in full this past January. The corporation also received a record 45,000 complaints (See News, 5 Jan 2005).
