Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan may be the latest stars to take on the roles of battling divorcees Amanda and Elyot in the Noel Coward classic, Private Lives. Producer Duncan Weldon is hoping to bring a new production - directed by Howard Davies - of the 1920s comedy of manners to the West End in October. The last major London outing for the play was at the National in 1999 with Juliet Stevenson and Anton Lesser in the leads. Rickman and Duncan were previously seen together on stage in the 1980s in the RSC's acclaimed production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses which went on to the West End and Broadway. Rickman's last stage appearance, three years ago opposite Helen Mirren in the National's Antony and Cleopatra, was markedly less well received.
