When presenting at Sunday night’s Laurence Olivier Awards ceremony (See News, 26 Feb 2006), Kathleen Turner sounded even huskier than normal. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a vocal choice for the star of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? – she’s been suffering from laryngitis. As the week progressed, Turner’s condition worsened. On Wednesday night, she had to pull out of the evening performance at the West End’s Apollo Theatre. It was hoped she would return today, but it now looks like she’ll be off for the rest of the weekend, with her understudy Carmen Rodriguez performing the role of Martha in the Edward Albee classic.
