No, it’s not a case of seeing double – there really will be two Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre next Tuesday, 17 March 2005. Julie Andrews, who of course originated the role of the magical nanny in Disney’s 1964 film classic, will attend a special charity gala performance of the multi-million pound stage musical. What will she think of Laura Michelle Kelly’s Olivier Award-winning performance in the title role? Practically perfect? Proceeds from the performance will go to three different organisations: LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art), children’s charity ARK and Operation USA, of which Andrews is a trustee. Though most of the black tie, gala tickets have already been distributed, but there are a handful still available for £100 per head. Call 0870 850 9193 for further details.
