Apologies to anyone who didn't receive last week's email newsletter from Whatsonstage.com. David Mamet is to blame. Or rather, the title of his 1974 play Sexual Perversity in Chicago - soon to be revived in the West End with Minnie Driver and Hollywood's Matthew Perry and Hank Azaria (See News, 10 Feb 2003) - which sensitive Internet filters found just too racy to contemplate. The combination of "sexual" and "perversity" (we assume, "Chicago" was safe, but you never know) caused more firewall bounces than anything since Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues. In future newsletters, we'll have to refrain from using the play's full title for protection only - please don't think we've turned prudish on you. And let's hope the production itself doesn't fall foul of any silly censors.
