Donovan to star as Captain to Fisher's Maria at WMC

Date: 4 May 2011

Jason Donovan will star as Captain Von Trapp, alongside Connie Fisher as Maria, in the legendary Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music when it returns to Wales Millennium Centre this summer.

Jason Donovan has had a hugely successful and varied career as both an actor and worldwide recording artist, selling over 13 million albums to date. His West End theatre credits include Tick in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, the title role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Caractacus Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. His touring credits include Frank N Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, the title role in John Doyle's production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd and The Artilleryman in The War of the Worlds.

His television credits include Neighbours and Echo Beach. He was also a finalist in ITV's 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!'

Connie Fisher won BBC 1's How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? and played the role of Maria at the London Palladium for 15 months, to critical acclaim. Before reprising the role for the UK tour, she starred in the Menier Chocolate Factory's production of They're Playing Our Song and the ITV drama Caught in a Trap.

For anyone left on the planet who may not know, The Sound of Music tells the story of the Von Trapp family's flight across the mountains. It has an unforgettable score that includes some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical stage including 'Edelweiss'; 'My Favorite Things'; 'Do-Re-Mi'; 'Climb Ev'ry Mountain'; 'The Lonely Goatherd'; and the title song 'The Sound of Music'.

The Sound of Music is at Wales Millennium Centre from 23 August – 3 September 2011.
