DreamWorks' Madagascar Live! tours UK arenas next year

Date: 11 October 2012

The first arena tour of DreamWorks Madagascar Live!, adapted from the hit 2005 animated film, will visit nine cities in the UK next year beginning in January 2013.

The story centres on animals from New York's Central Park Zoo - including Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the Hippo - who find themselves on an unexpected journey to Madagascar.

According to press, "Everyone's favourite Madagascar characters will star in a live theatrical show based on the blockbuster DreamWorks Animation franchise, reliving the fun and humour of the animals and their escapades, brilliantly recreated in an arena production of lively storytelling, dance and music, including the hit song ‘Move It, Move It’."

Bill Damaschke, chief creative officer for DreamWorks Animation, said today: "I could not be more delighted that the characters of Madagascar will be taking to the stage in the UK in 2013. The show that we have created, and that is being presented by Stage Entertainment Touring Productions brings together all the energy, wit and fun of the films to make an inventive entertaining live experience."

Madagascar Live! is directed by Gip Hoppe, director of Dora the Explorer Live who has worked with Broadway Across America and Nickelodeon on other family friendly live touring productions including: Blue’s Clues Live, Dora’s Pirate Adventure and Go, Diego, Go Live! Hoppe also wrote and directed the Broadway play Jackie: An American Life and is a founding member and co-artistic director of the Wellfleet Harbor Actor’s Theatre.

Madagascar Live! will visit: Bournemouth International Centre (10-13 January 2013), Birmingham NEC (18-20 January), Brighton Centre (25-27 January), Nottingham Capital FM Arena (1-3 February), Newcastle Metro Radio Arena (8-10 February), Cardiff Motorpoint Arena (15-17 February), Exeter Westpoint Arena (21-24 February), London Wembley Arena (1-3 March) and Glasgow SECC Clyde Auditorium (8-10 March).
