Eastbourne's Congress Theatre puts another feather in its cap

Date: 2 June 2012

Hot on the heels of the announcement that the national tour of the brand-new Top of the Pops LIVE musical will launce at the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne on 18 October 2012, comes yet another coup for, what is rapidly becoming, East Sussex’s top entertainment venue.

Michael McIntyre, the star of Comedy Roadshow and judge on Britain’s Got Talent is returning to Eastbourne on Monday 30 July to try out new material, prior to his third, and biggest, nationwide arena tour later in the year. His previous two national tours, Michael McIntyre’s Live & Laughing and Hello Wembley, have sold over 2,500,000 DVDs and plans are already being made to distribute a DVD of this year’s tour, to be available in shops from mid November.

Michael McIntyre burst onto the comedy scene and took the country by storm when he made his big break at the Royal Variety Performance in 2006. Numerous television appearances have followed, including Mock the Week, 8 out of 10 Cats, Have I Got News for You and The Graham Norton Show.

More details are also emerging about the format of the Top of the Pops LIVE musical which will pay homage to the DJs who introduced the TV show and to the resident dance troops Pan’s People and Legs & Co. TOTP LIVE will offer a feast of musical nostalgia and, during the show, the singers, dancers, presenters and a live band will perform song after song and along with vintage chart footage, host a chart rundown covering three decades.

On the night the audience will also get to pick a song from a short list of five classic hits that will be the evenings’ number one and, in addition, the TOTP LIVE cameras will be following the host DJs during the show as they interview the audience about their favourite vintage music and bands.
