Cock Tavern Hosts G20-Inspired Improvised Play

A new improvised work is coming to Kilburn's Cock Tavern Theatre next month (5-30 May), based on two young directors' experiences at the recent G20 protests.

Invisible Storms, conceived by Jamie Harper and Dan Muirden, is billed as “tackling the defining issue of our time: climate change” and features a different story every night of its three-week run.

Speaking to Whatsonstage.com, Jamie Harper described the motivation behind the project: “We felt like there was too much preaching at the protests” he said. “It needed to be challenged. We came up with creative ways we as individuals can change things, and made the piece personal. The big issues feel so far away.”

On the reason they avoided a scripted piece, he added: “If it was scripted there could be a tendency to be intellectual … we wanted to communicate ideas. It’s not preachy. It’s interesting in its subtext. But the challenge is trying to keep it impulsive.”

Currently at the Cock Tavern, Adrian Pagan's The Back Room finishes on 2 May.
