Jesus Christ Superstar's 2013 tour postponed until October

Date: 6 February 2013

The 2013 return of Andrew Lloyd Webber's arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, originally scheduled for March, has been postponed until later in the year.

According to joint statement from Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Group and AEG Live: "Due to circumstances beyond their control RUG and AEG are rescheduling the Jesus Christ Superstar arena tour dates originally planned for March. This is largely due to the enormous demand across the Globe with tours in Australia, Europe and USA to be announced soon."

Starring Ben Forster (Jesus), Tim Minchin (Judas Iscariot), Melanie C (Mary Magdalene) and Chris Moyles (King Herod), the Whatsonstage.com Award-nominated production premiered at London's O2 Arena on 21 September 2012 as part of a UK tour.

The statement continues: "In order to avoid disappointing the thousands of fans who have already purchased tickets for the tour in March, the UK dates will be rescheduled for October and the good news is that in addition to the previously announced cities the new time period enables us to add two brand new buildings that were not available in March, the Leeds Arena and The Hydro, Glasgow."

The new tour dates are: The Hydro, Glasgow (1 October), Birmingham NIA Arena (3 October), Leeds Arena (4 October), Newcastle Metro Arena (6 October), Cardiff Motorpoint Arena (8 October), Nottingham Arena (10 October), Manchester Arena (11 October), London The O2 (13 October), Liverpool Echo Arena (15 October).

All tickets remain valid for the rescheduled shows with refunds available at point of purchase. New shows go on sale Friday 15 February 2013. A representative has confirmed to Whatsonstage.com that the principal cast members will return for the new dates.

The 1971 musical, which tells of the political and interpersonal struggles of Judas Iscariot and Jesus, includes hits such as "I Don't Know How to Love Him", "Gethsemane" and "Superstar", and has proved one of the most popular of the Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice collaborations.

The arena tour is directed by Laurence Connor, with lighting by Patrick Woodroffe and design by Mark Fisher.

Tim Minchin & Melanie C will be performing songs from Jesus Christ Superstar at the Whatsonstage.com Awards Concert on 17 February 2013 - click here for more info and tickets
