Oldham Coliseum presents Taking Steps at GrangeDate: 7 February 2012 Oldham Coliseum Theatre begin the year with Taking Steps, a classic farce from Alan Ayckbourn, directed by Robin Herford. In a full cricle move - Ayckbourn protégé Robin played Mark in the original 1979 production which toured to The Grange Arts Centre where this new production with be performed next month.
Simultaneously set over three floors of a crumbling mansion house, Taking Steps follows a mismatch of characters over the course of one night and a following morning, as confusion and hilarity ensues. Alan Ayckbourn’s classic comedy, one of the funniest plays in the English language, demonstrates that ordinary situations can become extraordinary through simple misunderstanding and bad timing.
Taking Steps is the first Coliseum production staged away from the Fairbottom Street site during the theatre’s refurbishment. The play will be performed in the round – just as originally intended – at The Grange Arts Centre.
Robin Hertford said of working back at The Grange Arts Centre:
“I’m looking forward to re-acquainting myself with the space after 30 odd years, and putting on a play that is so well suited to being done in-the-round in a space that was conceived for that very purpose. I am confident that the first Coliseum show out of the building will get the spring season off to a cracking start.”
Taking Steps by Oldham Coliseum Theatre is at the Grange Arts Centre from 16 February - 10 March.
