Sex and the City’s Cattrall graduates in Liverpool

Date: 12 July 2010

Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall has been made an honorary fellow of Liverpool John Moores University for her achievements in the performing arts.

The actress joined other graduates of the university at a ceremony in Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral dressed in traditional gown and cap.

Accepting the accolade in front of a star struck audience, Cattrall said: “Whoever said that ‘you can’t go home again’ didn’t come from Liverpool. I feel very connected to this city. Coming from Liverpool meant that I was special.

“This is a very extraordinary experience for me and my family and I think it is the first time I’ve been called a fellow. I am proud of my routes in Liverpool. I feel part of this city and I’m immensely proud to be part of the Liverpool John Moores University family. Thank you for bringing me home.”

The fifty three year old, who plays Samantha Jones in the American film and television series Sex and the City, was born in Mossley Hill but grew up largely in Canada.

She is returning to her place of birth in October to star in Antony and Cleopatra at the Liverpool Playhouse.
