Ghost Stories co-creator Nyman in Playhouse role

Date: 28 January 2010

Co-writer and co-director of Ghost Stories, Andy Nyman, will be amongst the cast in the forthcoming world premiere production next week.

He will add to his acting credentials (Dead Set, Severance) next Thursday when he joins Nicholas Burns, star of Channel 4’s Nathan Barley and ITV’s Benidorm, on stage, which will also include David Cardy (The Changeling, Birds Of A Feather) and Ryan Gage (Hamlet, Quadrophenia) amongst the cast.

Ghost Stories will open the new Liverpool Playhouse season on 4 February (See News, 20 Nov 2009), which is an 80-minute live experience written and directed by The League of Gentlemen master of the macabre, Jeremy Dyson, and Nyman, the co-creator and director of illusionist Derren Brown’s television and stage shows.

In a joint statement, the creative pair said: “As die-hard horror fans, we've dreamt of doing a show like this since we first met each other at the age of 15. We are incredibly excited at the prospect of enthralling, thrilling and scaring people in the theatre, it really is a dream come true for us.”

The creative team also includes Scott Penrose, who designed the special effects and magic for Cirque du Soleil’s current world touring show Kooza and has also worked on films such as The Illusionist.

Ghost Stories opens at the Liverpool Playhouse on Thursday 4 February and runs until Saturday 20 February, before it transfers to London. The show is a Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse and Lyric Hammersmith co-production.
