Pocket Dream for New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth

Date: 1 September 2010

Propeller Theatre Company are presenting a special shortened version of their celebrated A Midsummer Night’s Dream, at the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth.

Pocket Dream promises to be a ‘first class theatrical experience’ based on Propeller’s critically acclaimed – A Midsummer Night’s Dream which has played over 200 performances worldwide. The show won the TMA’s Best Touring Production and whatsonstage Best Ensemble award.

Under the direction of Edward Hall, this all-male Shakespeare company combine a rigorous approach to the text with a physical aesthetic to create productions full of imagination. Hall has directed for the stage all over the world; is artistic director for Propeller and Hampstead Theatre and an associate director at the National Theatre, the Old Vic and the Watermill Theatre, as well as artistic director of Propeller Theatre Company.

Pocket Dream was first produced in Spring 2008 as a part of the government’s campaign to put Shakespeare at the centre of the education system. Such was the success of the first tour that a second was made and the production transferred to Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York.

The cast includes Richard Dempsey whose stage credits include Dirty Dancing, Fame (West End), Just So, Out of this World (Chichester Festival Theatre) and Sherlock Holmes - The Sussex Vampire for television; Jonathan Livingstone who recently played David Taylor in War Horse at the National Theatre and in the West End and John Trenchard who returns to Propeller having acted in the company’s original A Midsummer Night’s Dream, he has also appeared at the Watermill Theatre a number of times (Mack and Mabel, Sunset Boulevard, Twelfth Night) and played Gary in BBC’s My Family.

Pocket Dream plays four performances at the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth over two days, 14 and 15 September.
